Twin Block

The twin block is used to encourage the growth of the lower jaw forward and reduce a protrusion. The Twin Block consists of an upper and a lower appliance with occlusal inclines to thrust the lower jaw forward. The goal of Twin Block Treatment is to balance the growth of the lower jaw to the upper jaw.

Instructions

1. For the appliance to be effective, it has to be worn all the time even when eating.
2. It is removed only to brush the appliance to avoid plaque build up and prevent odor. (Soaking appliance occasionally in a denture cleanser will also help.)
3. If the Twin Block is worn well, the chance of extractions and surgery will be reduced.
4. Initially, the appliance will interfere with speech, but in time speech will improve.
5. Reading aloud 10-15 mins. each day will help improve speech.
6. There may be some discomfort at first and possibly some sore spots.
7. For sore spots rinse with salty water or Peroxyl to aid in healing. If discomfort persists, please notify our office.

• There is a replacement charge if the appliance is lost or broken.
