Swartz
The swartz appliance is used for slow expansion of a narrow or constricted upper arch. This appliance is commonly used to correct crossbites. In addition, this appliance can be modified to correct thumbsucking habits, protrusions, and tongue thrusts.
Instructions
- Should be worn all the time (even during eating) and should only be removed for activation and brushing unless specified by Doctor.
- The Swartz is activated one time per week.
- Activation:
- Remove appliance from mouth.
- Insert key (if lost use a paper clip) into screw hole.
- Turn key in direction of the yellow arrow.
- Activation is complete when next hole can be seen.
- Be sure to brush the appliance to prevent plaque build up and remove bacteria causing odor. Also, soaking the appliance with a denture cleanser will help.
- Teeth may be sore for a day or two.
- There is a replacement charge if the appliance is lost or broken.
