Swartz

Swartz The swartz appliance is used for slow expansion of a narrow or constricted upper arch. This appliance is commonly used to correct crossbites. In addition, this appliance can be modified to correct thumbsucking habits, protrusions, and tongue thrusts.

Instructions

  1. Should be worn all the time (even during eating) and should only be removed for activation and brushing unless specified by Doctor.
  2. The Swartz is activated one time per week.
  3. Activation:
    • Remove appliance from mouth.
    • Insert key (if lost use a paper clip) into screw hole.
    • Turn key in direction of the yellow arrow.
    • Activation is complete when next hole can be seen.
  4. Be sure to brush the appliance to prevent plaque build up and remove bacteria causing odor. Also, soaking the appliance with a denture cleanser will help.
  • Teeth may be sore for a day or two.
  • There is a replacement charge if the appliance is lost or broken.
