RPE (Rapid Palatal Expander)

The RPE is a screw activated appliance that is attached to the upper teeth. It is commonly used to expand the maxilla (upper jaw) and correct crossbites.

1. Turn appliance twice a day (once in the morning and once at night) unless otherwise instructed.
2. Turn appliance by inserting key into the hole and pushing the key toward the back of the throat. This will bring the next hole into view.
3. Brush as usual, use a water pik to flush out appliance and roof of mouth, and swish clean with mouthwash.

• The RPE is kept in for a certain amount of time to maintain expansion.
• NO sticky, chewy or hard foods and absolutely NO GUM CHEWING.
• Spacing between front teeth should be expected, but will begin to close once turning is complete.
